Kathy Joy Bell was born in Somerset, Kentucky. She was raised in the small town of Pine Knot, which is located in southeastern Kentucky. She practically came out of the womb singing and was delighted to have an older sister who would accompany her on the piano when she sang in church. She received piano instruction for 11 years until leaving home to attend the University of Kentucky. At UK, Kathy was accepted as a piano performance major, but decided instead to pursue a career in the mental health field.
In 1994, Kathy graduated from UK with a BA in Psychology. She subsequently began her graduate studies at Seattle Pacific University in 1996. During this time, she began to attend church again and to pray that God would reveal himself to her more deeply. She also began to pray that God would bring music back into her life. God began to answer her prayers in 1997 by inspiring her first song. He also answered her prayers by leading her to Western Seminary Seattle (Now called Mars Hill Graduate School), where she would complete a Master's in Counseling. Kathy left seminary with a growing hunger for God. Songs began to pour out of her soul as God continued to deal with her heart on deeper and deeper levels.
In 2000, Kathy returned home to Kentucky. In 2001, God's call on her life became more complete as she met and married her soul mate, Andrew Bell. Together, they committed their life to God’s call.
By 2002, Kathy could not hold back any longer. She longed to share her testimony with others through music. In September, she took the first step by signing a recording contract with the former GMT Records. In January 2003, Kathy’s first project, simply titled, Kathy Bell, was released.
On July 14, 2004, a beautiful daughter, Andrea Joy, was born. Andrea would complete their blended family of five. Kathy and Andy would welcome a new daughter and Joshua and Megan would welcome a new sister.
Kathy has released 3 projects and several songs to radio. Her music has been heard on Christian Country, Southern Gospel, and Contemporary Christian stations. She continues to carry out her call to sing and write about the Lord with increasing passion. Through song, she continues to share the hope of Christ with others.
